Developing a good practice guide and training manual for young people's participation in research, policy and practice developments to prevent and combat violence

To date knowledge and understanding about effectively promoting young people's
participation
in projects, associated with violence, is largerly based on individual project experiences in Western Europe. By bringing together a team of academics and NGOs for the UK and South-East Europe, who are actively involved in young people's participation to combat and prevent
violence
, this project will ensure the development of materials relevant to both established and new EU member states.

YOU RESPOND aims at the promotion of good practices in relation to child and young people participation in projects to combat and prevent violence against children. This will be achieved through the development of educational materials: an
evidence-based good practice guide
and
training materials
. These materials will be designed for practitioners in relevant govermental and non-govermental organisations. Their focus will be on best practice in relation to engaging young people in establishing the scope, nature, impact and prevention of violence in developing
policy
and
practice
.

The research project YOU RESPOND is led by the University of Sheffield (two streams within the University are involved in the project: the Centre for the Study of Childhood and Youth and the Department of Sociological Studies), and a team of partners and associate partners from 4 countries (UK, Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria) which is divided into academic/NGO teams. The University of Sheffield will work with Walsall Youth Service, SEERC (Greece) will work with the Institute of Child Health and the European University Cyprus will work with Social Reforms for Development and Integration Foundation in Bulgaria.
